Rescue 3 New Zealand is part of the Search & Rescue Institute New Zealand (SARINZ) group, a registered charity delivering training to public safety organisations throughout New Zealand. Rescue 3 New Zealand delivers the suite of Rescue 3 International under license, the world’s largest provider of water and rope rescue training with over 150,000 people worldwide since 1979. Many commercial Rescue 3 International accredited courses are run by independent instructors and providers including SARINZ and WERO; however Rescue 3 New Zealand is unique in the global network of 1,500 instructors in that their courses are delivered by volunteers for volunteers, even though the Instructor’s themselves often are or have been paid professionals in public safety or outdoor recreation (such as raft guides and kayak instructors).
Travel Prefab is now coming to the rescue of Rescue 3 New Zealand by providing some funding for their volunteer instructors to travel overseas to maintain their international instructor certifications and to attend course updates and train-the-trainer so that new international courses can be made available locally. Rescue 3 International Vice-President Jen Miller, based in California said the support of Travel Prefab ensures instructors on the other side of the world remain connected and can continue to contribute to the development and maintenance of international best practice in technical rescue.
